We're fine
Apr. 16th, 2013 12:49 amNeither Jonathon nor I (nor to my knowledge, any friends of ours) were near the Boston Marathon today. Jonathon got a news-alert from CNN, followed closely by a text-page from MIT. We pulled up the web-browsers and turned on the TV. I am aghast.
The casualty-count (over 100) is horrific -- and no surprise, given how packed & popular the event is. What feels oddly saddest to me, is all of the runners who have lost their chance to finish this race. All of the training, effort, earning qualifications, and pain ... suddenly closed down. The end, taken away. Runners who were uninjured are still unable to complete the race.
A marathon is such a non-political event and international.
It's disgusting to attack this.
I'm glad we're safe.
Thanks for the inquiring texts, out-of-town friends.
