a weekend of vigor
Apr. 17th, 2012 12:35 amToday (Monday) was the Patriots Day holiday. Jonathon & I did a lot this long weekend. (For once I can say that in sense that each of us got a good deal done; not just Jonathon working and me making plurals.)
Purged several items of furniture from basement, and put out items we'd been meaning to get rid of. Arlington is pretty good at making stuff disappear. All that was left by tonight were two Pyrex baking dishes and a wicker basket. (Honestly, I'm surprised that the baking dishes weren't one of the earlier things to go.)
Beyond the basement re-org, which significantly widened & straightened the aisle, we moved Jonathon's "bike shop" over to the other half of the basement. (This was a case of Jonathon doing the significant work, with me just lending a hand here and there.) Upstairs neighbors were gratifyingly unconcerned about yielding us the space. The whole front third of the basement is now purely empty --- ready for landlords to allegedly begin heating-system replacement.
As part of the junk-furniture purge, I rearranged the storage-furniture in the back bedroom. (This one was mostly me, with Jonathon just cooperating on the heavy lifting.) Room looks more open now, although there is still a large number of T-shirt piles on the spare bed. Turns out that the pants I repeatedly couldn't find had been folded neatly in a dresser which I still recalled as been nigh-empty but for unfavored sweaters. Nope, it was full of pants and T shirts. ...I have so many T shirts!
I re-packed all the Passover stuff (this year with packing labels!) and returned the non-Passover food & dishes to their homes. Their new homes, I should say. I enjoy the opportunity to experiment with new arrangements. Term limits for pantry positions! Cabinet, too! ;-)
Each year I/we get closer and closer to requiring NO re-kashering of items, to convert them from year-round to Passover use. During the basement work, Jonathon pointed out that we could designate for Passover use the stored & forgotten box of drinking glasses --- the undesirable tall ones which came in a set with the everyday short ones. Last year, I gave up an all-metal chef knife for permanent Passover status. I plan to buy a fresh ladle sometime over the year and then our minimal-requirement set will be complete!
(Ok, except for the large mixing bowls, which I wouldn't want to store.)
Also done this weekend: my taxes.
