ice skating!
Jan. 26th, 2010 11:17 pmToday I went ice skating for the first time. Jonathon was a very stable point, and pretty good teacher. "Wait, is this really your first time on ice," he asks when I still can't figure out how to push without getting the stupid toepicks in the ice. "Well, yes!"
But we did pretty well. Jonathon, a ice-hockey-player from his youth, is very stable. He helped glide me around to get the feel of balancing. He reminded me that I know how to glide from cross-country skiiing, and how to balance. But it's not really quite the same.
We spent about 30 minutes all told. By the very end of it I was able to mostly go where I tried --- just in time to skate myself to the exit of the rink. ... Which was rather crowded (since the East End House was having their annual giant skating trip)... so I set off for the other exit gate. Oh, but that one was farther from our shoes... so I set off for the first exit again.
Whee! I can toddle under my own own power on ice!
This will come very handy this weekend, when I have plans to go iceskating for only very second time ever.
