Oh, and I finally picked up "Tampopo" after having it on my list for a long time. All my local video stores did not have it (although one said they "used to") but the Arlington Library did. Hooray for public libraries!
The librarian reacted with happy recognition when I asked her help to find the disc.
Tampopo is described as a Japanese "noodle Western". Especially at the beginning, it is a great send-up of martial arts flicks. I'd say Tampopo has the characteristics of a cult movie that people will either love or be puzzled/off-put by. Add me to the list of people who love this movie! I watched it over and over, two times all the way thru plus a few scenes, before having to return the disc today.
I made the Starbase Zero residents screen the DVD. Have you seen it yet?
