The East bike cage (the one by the Moppets playground) is being touchy. It frequently refuses to unlock, and the problem appears to me to be with the scanner not the cards.
My experience: Repeated attempts with cards that worked on the other cage failed to unlock the cage. A card that failed several times, later worked after a different card successfully unlocked the cage. The T staffer on duty told me that people have reported this problem yesterday as well.
If my bike hadn't been already in there, I would have given up! I have never had any card-problems with the West Bike Cage (in the pick-up/drop-off lot), or for that matter in the uncaged racks. That's where I'll be parking from now on.
Avoid the "East Bike Cage" at Alewife.
