TO SUM UP:
I never did find anyone to use the extra Shlomi Shabat ticket, but did make friends with a new neighbor in the process. Of course I still went -- and had a great time.
Took my annual trip home for my dad's birthday. That went well. Jonathon drove with me, in our NEW CAR (purchased 2 months ago). Fine weather, no drama, lots of food, even some time with my brother. Saw hometown friends I hadn't seen in a long time, although one was sadly sick.
The $200 bike headlight I'd bought for my father (he dropped big hints at Thanksgiving) turned out to be defective. I will have to return it :-( But my dad had found a $9 strap-mounted miner-style head-lamp at the local surplus store. Which, even if mine had worked, he would have loved more --- because "what a deal!! Whoo-hoo-ha!"
Actually, the $9 lamp is pretty sweet, so I don't feel insulted. Although I worry about the operating life it might have. I am disappointed not to have been able to see the rechargeable system in action, because I bet it would be brighter.
Some college friends of my folks (the Skowronski's) came by on Sunday to pick up my parents for a few days in the Berkshires. I happily stuck around long enough to see them. We had a grand old time at lunch, laughing it up.
I also finished reading "Waiting For an Ordinary Day" by Farnaz Fassihi about her years reporting in Iraq before & during this war. Powerful.
Now I am counting down to Arisia
