This morning, I woke up somewhat promptly and was able to get an astounding number of tasks (3!) done after shower & before leaving for work. On the way to the office, I remembered to stop by the Cambridge DPW's Truck Show. They had a nice selection of vehicles lined up in two rows along the park, and PLENTY of staffers ready to explain & answer questions. Plus, you could play with the controls & climb in the cabs!

There was also a display by the Maintenance Department with common components of engines & brakes, but I didn't notice that until I had glutted myself on machines and it was time to head on over to work.

Most of the attendees were young kids (not even elementary-school) and their teachers (who lead the kiddies around on those whole-class handhold-strings that have become de rigeur well after I graduated kindergarden). Some of the kids had a parent instead of day-care/teachers. I was not surprised there were so few un-child-ed adults, but I seemed strange that there were no *grade-school* classes on field trip. Despite the abundance of kids, it didn't feel to me like a kid-focused dumbed-down padded-corners "experience". Which was great!

Also, I got to see the street-sweepers used in Central Square (an enormous, snout-shaped vehicle) and the inside of a recycling truck. The second steering location is neat! Also, I climbed in the basket of a cherry-picker (on the ground), and learned what controls they have. The DPW has one electric car (not highway rated), which they explained is mostly used for ... parades.

One extra use for the electric car this day, though, was to hold a Golden Shoe!
