dog log anectode
Aug. 16th, 2006 01:22 amone point of an lj was to record anectodes. i dont have them otherwise.
this anecdote happened thursday, when Big Dave was visiting town. We went down to the riverside, by the public theater, and chilled. (it was tisha bav, so chilling took the place of picnicing.) while we were there, a man and his dog came by to play.
The dog looked like a black lab, and it was hauling an outlandish hunk of something. I'm guessing it was a section of a stump, or a foot of 4x6. It was bigger than the dog's head, but the dog didn't seem to mind. In fact, it kept encouraging its owner to toss the enormous chunk in a game of Fetch.
After dropping off the log with the owner, the dog would hurry to the bank and leap into the water. Meanwhile, the owner would laboriously swing the mass into the air. (This was entertaining because it was so slow. The dog was always waiting in the water by the time the log is released.) Log's measured trajectory brings it barely past the water's edge, so moments later, dog is strong-jawing it back on land.
At one point, the owner tries using a normal sized stick. As it flies thru the air, the dog goes tearing after it --- but he balks at the riverbank.
I imagine the dog's thoughts: Jump in the water for that trifling stick? Ha! Throw me a real stick.
