the perfect spoons
Nov. 12th, 2005 12:41 amYou may know that I have been holding out, in my slow process of stocking my own kitchen for the first time, holding out on the purchase of measuring sppons. Not because I don't think they are an important part of a balanaced breakfast -- I mean "balanced kitchen". On the contrary: I feel they are so important that I have been waiting for the perfect ones.
(It helps that I had this inexplicable problem that, whenever I would go to the store, to buy a cheapo plastic set of measuring implements -- just, you understand as a temporary stop-gap until the perfect set, which would nearly certainly be metal ant not purchased lightly --- every time I would come to the measuring implemets, my malady would kick in and I would think what I lacked was measuring cups.
I now own 4 sets of measuring cups due to this mental twig.)
Four sets of measuring cups, and one... perfect... set of measuring spoons.
My waiting was justified: Extra-ordinary measuring spoons do exist. And I found them yesterday. (I'll update the post later with the story of how. It's a bit involved. I'm trying to figure out how to get more.)
I carried them around with me all of today.
I showed them off to my friends in the QA alley. "You better hide those," said K. "I don't know if I can keep from stealing them."
I showed them off to my friend who joined me for lunch.
I stopped two designers who were walking by, because they had to see these beautiful things.
I went to Eitz Chayim, and showed them off at the Catered Shabbat Dinner. It was only bare chance that I did not announce them during the start-of-services check-in, but I dragged
juliruge to see them after kiddush.
Soon as I download the pictures off my camera, I'm posting images. You better believe I photographed the puppies. They come out much better in real life, though, so if you see me over the next few days, ask. I'll probably have them in reach!
