The Gates (first draft)
Feb. 18th, 2005 03:13 pmSo, I headed down to NYC and saw "the gates". The artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude built these big rectangle gates to fit over the walkways of Central Park and hung from each one a sheet of special cloth that hangs about halfway down the gate. To give an idea of the height: I can reach the bottom inch-and-a-half of the cloths, if I stretch. They are not huge, but they aren't quite human-scale. The gates are just big enough that they give me the impression of theater set-pieces.

So, the Gates weren't Saffron, and I wasn't in the mood for Modern Art. But was it cool? Yeah, it was pretty cool. =)
Not quite cool enough that I'd travel from out of town just to see it, but pretty cool. Let's set aside the fact that I in fact just did travel in from out of town to go see it, OK? It was a very good excuse for a nice walk in the Park, and that was, I would say, its best feature.
