Went downtown to the Middle East with Jess, Andrew, and Tomer to see the Suicide Girls' punk burlesque show. Thanks to Barak for clueing us in. They play tomorrow night in Northampton. The line in Cambridge stretched around two blocks, past Mary Chung's and nearly to the Salvation Army, if you know Central Square enough for that to be meaningful. I was impressed. It sold out when we had made it all the way to approx 50 people from the door.
Oh well!
The idea sounded really cool. I regret not being able to see the show, but I am not too fussed.

Last night I went out with Dan Scribner to dinner because he was in town. That was nice. We circled the North End & FleetCenter area on foot until we ended up at Piccola Venizia, where we stayed until they kicked us out. The restaurant wanted to close, but we were waiting for Valerie (and her new boyfriend Dani) to pick us up. The waiter had been quitely glowering at us for about half an hour by the time they arrived. No sooner had they walked in the door then the other waiter/maitre de guy came rushing out of the back kitchen, "No! No! ... Restaurant is closed!" So we went elsewhere for dessert: Mike's Pastries.
When we got to Mike's Pastries, it was packed. Tasty desserts were had by all. We had barely gotten to the stuffed-full point, and were entering the coffee-sipping stage when the place somehow suddenly emptied out. One moment a packed maze, the next an empty room in which waitstaff swept up around us and politely indicated we should get the hell out. In their credit, they did let me use their bathroom first (a nice favor, because it was supposed to be employees only).
After that, Dani drove us all to Kendall Square Cinema and we saw "Japanese Story." Don't let the name fool ya, it's full-on Australian. I reccomend the movie. At first, I didn't like the way the story was going. But steadily it became more engaging. And by the end I was fully blown away by the ability of the lead actress (Toni Collette).
We sat in the theater after the film had ended, digesting it and thinking. ... Until -- rap! rap! rap! --- the projectionist in his booth banged on the glass window and gestured to shoo us out already.

The day before that, I had taken Andrew on a date that was initally planned to be a Sam Adams Brewery Tour, but ended up being a thoroughly enjoyable stomp thru the Arnold Arboretum and Ethiopian restaurant dinner with Dan & Danielle afterwards. It was, as Andrew commented, a very appropriate way to spend Tu BiShevat.
